01Brad Paisley

Mud on the Tires

Studio-precise hybrid-picked Tele tone with chicken-pickin' twang and modern country polish. Bridge pickup of a Crook Tele into a Dr. Z amp with light compression and a moderate delay slap. Every note has fast attack from the pick-and-finger combination. Bends and bluegrass-style cascades are clean and articulate. Lots of midrange snap, almost no fuzz or breakup — even the solo stays clean.

03Field note

The secret sauce

It's the hybrid picking — flatpick between thumb and index, with middle and ring fingers grabbing the higher strings. That's what gives Paisley his speed and the staccato bounce of the lines.
