01Fleetwood Mac

Go Your Own Way

Bright, fingerpicked clean tone for the verse riff — the famous descending arpeggio that opens the song. Slightly compressed by the amp, with a fast pick attack from his fingerstyle technique (no nails, just fingertip). The outro solo is the same rig but pushed into amp breakup — sharp, slightly bitey lead tone with no pedal distortion at all. The whole texture is bright and airy because of Buckingham's high-action setup and fingerstyle dynamics.

The secret sauce

Buckingham plays without picks — the tone of fingertip on steel string is what makes the verse riff sound percussive rather than melodic. The outro solo is the amp at the edge of breakup, not a pedal.
