01The Beatles

Something

Smooth, slightly compressed lead tone — Gibson Les Paul (Lucy, given to Harrison by Clapton) through a Fender Twin with a touch of Leslie cabinet via mic technique (not always a Leslie pedal). The solo has a vocal, almost human quality — every bend lands and decays musically. Tone is warm with rolled-off treble, sitting in the upper-mid space the strings and bass leave open. No fuzz, just amp warmth.

03Field note

The secret sauce

Harrison records his solos slowly and deliberately, often punching in phrase-by-phrase. The 'tone' is the patience — there's no rushed phrasing anywhere on the take. Every note gets to bloom and decay before the next one starts.
